Bio & Contact
Sorin Neamțu (b. 1977, Romania) is a visual artist based in Timișoara. Working primarily with painting and drawing—and occasionally extending into object-based formats—he builds images through sustained line-making and the material construction of the surface. His practice develops through self-imposed procedures: a small set of decisions repeated long enough for their consequences to become visible. Repetition is not used as a style, but as a method of attention—through accumulation, subtle shifts in pressure, rhythm, and alignment remain legible over time.
Neamțu holds an MA (2004–2006) and a BA (1999–2004) in Painting from the University of Timișoara (class of Constantin Flondor), and a BSc in Computer Science from the Polytechnic University of Timișoara (1995–2001). From 2012 to 2019, he co-founded and directed Baril Gallery (Cluj-Napoca). In 2014, Baril Gallery received the Guido Carbone Prize at Artissima Torino for a group presentation curated by Neamțu.
His work is held in public and private collections, including the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC), Bucharest.
